Lessons from Antarctic Exploration.
You might think that Antarctic exploration in the last few decades is a million miles away from the legendary exploits of Scott, Shackleton and like. To some degree that is a valid assumption, but on closer examination there are certain modern parallels to that heroic age. While communications and other technology have undoubtedly made major changes, the fundamentals of scientific curiosity, leadership and teamwork are still as relevant today as they ever were. In his talk, Ash is going to discuss why Antarctic science is still relevant today and to draw on his 5 trips to Antarctica to highlight some of the lessons he learned in leadership and teamwork. There may also be the odd picture of penguins.
Brief Bio
Ash Johnson spent 9 years with the British Antarctic Survey, leading a number of airborne geophysical expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula. He then switched careers into business, spending 20 years growing a geoscience software company serving a wide range of organisations in natural resource exploration and hazard detection. Following a successful exit in late 2018, he set up Joluco Ltd, a business consultancy helping geoscience and technology companies to grow and realise their full potential.
